After beginning her professional acting career with regional theaters in North Carolina, Ohio, and Kentucky, Carolan Brown accepted a tantalizing offer to tour internationally for an unheard of twelve months with a company based in the Pacific Northwest. On what extended into a three-year tour, she fell in love with directing and teaching drama to students of any and every age. After completing her M.F.A. in Acting at the University of Montana in 1998, she continued her acting career. She found, however, that even when she accepted roles with no education component tied into the contract, she just couldn’t stay away from teaching. Whether it was instructing younger actresses in make-up techniques, giving informal voice lessons, leading dance and movement warm-ups, or mentoring knitting circles backstage, teaching became a vital part of her acting career. It probably goes without saying that these days she is very happy living in the Highlands with her husband Craig and daughter Emma. She feels so fortunate that she is able to direct and teach drama at Louisville Classical Academy, where in her opinion, every single child is a creative genius.
In partnership with the Missoula Children’s Theatre, Mrs. Brown will be leading a summer day camp for LCA and non-LCA students from June 10-14, 2019. Please contact LCA for more information.
