Louisville Classical Academy is a K-12, coeducational private school that provides motivated students with a rigorous foundation of knowledge, solid critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, and outstanding rhetoric abilities. We welcome students and families of every faith and philosophy. This diversity develops mutual respect, fosters unique friendships and community, and enriches our exploration of the world. The classical in our name traces its meaning to the ancient Greek development of two interconnected sets of principles that we strive to cultivate: Shared Inquiry™ and Habits of Mind.
Our nonsectarian, classical liberal arts curriculum uses the timeless tools of Latin, mathematics, enduring literature, and music to develop intellectual characteristics that enhance learning in the sciences, history, and art. Class sizes are small by design, fostering a spirit of cooperation and allowing teachers to give students the attention they deserve. LCA graduates are prepared for success in the nation’s most challenging colleges and for a life of mindful purpose.
Classical Liberal Arts
Louisville Classical Academy stands in a long tradition of education that reflects the spirit of inquiry of ancient Greece and Rome. Students at LCA learn, in a very literal way, how to participate productively in the “great conversation” that began in Athens more than 2,000 years ago and continues today. Essential areas of study in the classical liberal arts and sciences include enduring literature, Latin, advanced science and mathematics, history, fine arts, music, and geography, as well as culturally significant mythology and philosophy. These tools develop superior Habits of Mind, such as persistence, listening with empathy, communicating with precision, thinking flexibly, and taking responsible risks.
Grow with Us
If you know a curious, creative child who is eager to learn and delights in exploring the world, contact us today! We invite you to tour the school, and prospective students participate in a shadow day to see if the LCA education and community are a good fit. We accept applications year round, but enrollment is limited in order to keep our seminar-style classes small. We encourage interested families to apply early. Application review begins in November and placement invitations begin in January.
