I have been studying Latin for the past twenty-three years! (Gasp!) And teaching Latin since 2015 (many of which were at LCA). With the coming of COVID, I returned to university to learn a new pedagogical approach to teaching Latin. This style involves learning language through comprehensible texts and stories; it also involves meaningful use of the language in the classroom. I aim to speak Latin for much of the class and my students absorb the language and start producing it naturally. It makes language fun and has an interesting way of infiltrating every aspect of your life.
My classroom is very welcoming. The walls of my classroom are full of students’ art work and drawings. I am a kind, supportive and respectful teacher. All my students feel loved and welcomed.
I am also LCA's sponsor of the National Junior Classical League, which is a sort of National Classics Club, in which we play games and have fun. Establishing a connection between the classical world, my students and the modern world is of utmost importance to me.
I was born in London, raised in Scotland and came to America when I was ten. I never really found my niche until college, when I took a philosophy course with a phenomenal teacher (one of many to come).
My husband is saint and a social worker at Peace Hospital. My girls, Iona and Lynn, 8 and 6 respectively, amaze me everyday with their creativity, goofiness, kindness and compassion. The most recent addition to our household, three kitties—Black Bear, Minerva (Minnie) and Luna—are keeping us all very busy.
I am so excited to be back at LCA. LCA’s students are one of a kind—incredibly bright, inquisitive, kind, fun. I cannot wait to meet your children.
